Guts' Party

A ragged band seeking sanctuary from nightly demon attacks while hunting the God Hand.

Guts' Party is the traveling group formed by the protagonist of Berserk after he loses his left forearm and right eye during the Eclipse. Seeking revenge on Griffith, Guts leaves Casca under the care of Rickert before eventually reuniting with her to travel toward Elfhelm on the island of Skellig. This coalition includes Isidro, Farnese, and Serpico, who follow Guts out of fear that he will lose control to his dark impulses, embodied as the Beast of Darkness within his mind. The group also relies on the magical guidance of Schierke and the mentorship of Flora, who provides the Berserker Armor.

Lore & Background

The party's formation is driven by necessity following Guts' branding. The Skull Knight warns that those branded are subjected to nightly attacks by evil creatures. To survive, Guts accepts companions who can manage his inner darkness and care for Casca, who lost her sanity during the Eclipse. Their journey takes them from saving a village from trolls to meeting Flora, who gives Guts the Berserker Armor. This armor increases his power but risks pushing his body beyond its limits and being consumed by his inner darkness. The group eventually travels with a Kushan escort to their capital, where Guts is imprisoned as a precaution against Falconia's army.

In Their Own Story

After leaving Casca with Rickert, Guts embarks on a journey to hunt down Apostles and the God Hand. He decides to travel with Casca to Puck's homeland of Elfhelm on the island of Skellig. Isidro, Farnese, and Serpico join him out of fear that he will lose control of himself. The party encounters the witch Flora and her apprentice Schierke while saving a village from trolls. Flora gives Guts the Berserker Armor, which increases his power but carries the risk of consuming him with darkness. Later, the group travels to the Kushan capital where Guts is imprisoned. During this time, Rakshas, a Kushan Apostle in the New Band of the Hawk, appears and finds Guts in his cell. Rakshas finds Guts who willingly accepts death before Silat catches up and kills Rakshas. Meanwhile, Schierke uses astral projection to scout out Falconia in search of Casca.

Reader's Guide

The party operates without a formal military structure, relying on shared survival instincts rather than rank. Farnese becomes Casca's primary caretaker, ensuring the queen remains safe while Guts fights. Isidro and Serpico provide combat support and watch over Guts' mental state to prevent him from succumbing to the Beast of Darkness. The group utilizes Schierke's magical abilities for protection and reconnaissance, such as her astral projection during the Kushan capital siege. When facing overwhelming threats like Apostles or the God Hand, they rely on the Berserker Armor, though they must remain vigilant against its corrupting influence. Their ultimate goal is to reach Elfhelm, where inhabitants can heal Casca's mind, before engaging in a wider campaign against Falconia.
